Br. Maximilian is a native of Sioux Falls, SD. He was raised in Alliance, NE and Douglas, WY. He attended Mount Michael Benedictine College Preparatory School in Omaha, NE, boarding there seven days a week and graduating in 2012. After high school he attended Benedictine College, majoring in international business and Spanish and minoring in philosophy, graduating in 2016. After working as a FOCUS missionary for two years, he entered St. Benedict's Abbey in 2018 and made solemn vows on December 10, 2022.

He was born in New Brunswick, Canada and grew up near Washington, D.C. Before joining the monastery he taught in summer youth programs in inner-city D.C. and Italy, and Latin for three years at a middle/high school in Virginia.

Zack is originally from Saint Joseph, MO, graduating from Benton High School in 2016. After high school he attended Benedictine College to play football, graduating in 2021. He began working at Maur Hill - Mount Academy in 2021. He is currently the head football coach and powerlifting coach.

David is originally from Kansas City where he attended Bishop Miege High School. After high school he worked in the construction industry and was blessed to spend time as a stay-at-home parent. David attended Washburn University, earning a degree in secondary English education. He then earned his masters degree in education administration from Fort Hays State University. Prior to joining the Maur Hill - Mount Academy family in 2022, David was a teacher and building principal at Sabetha High School. David and his wife Kerry have two children; Henry attends Notre Dame University and is currently an ACE teacher in Brownsville, Texas. Ellen is a junior at Benedictine College studying music and psychology.

About Manuel Hernandez

Manuel Hernandez, aka Mr. H, is a native Californian, born and raised in the heart of the San Joaquin Valley and is a 1974 graduate of Redwood High School, in Visalia, CA. He graduated from the United States Military Academy, West Point, in 1978 with a bachelor of science in general engineering. He retired as a lieutenant colonel, from the Army, in August 2000, where he served in multiple leadership positions in the field artillery and began his teaching and coaching career at Immaculata. He began teaching theology and coaching tennis at Immaculata High School, Leavenworth, KS, in August 2000 and taught there until it closed in 2017, when he then began teaching at Maur Hill - Mount Academy. He expects to be teaching at least until his youngest graduates as a member of the class of 2024. He has served in parish ministries since 1982 and continues to do so as a member of Sacred Heart – St. Casimir Parish, Leavenworth. He married Maureen (Carney) Hernandez, of Prairie Village, KS, in 1993. Together they have always valued Catholic education and together they are the proud parents of five children, Theresa, IHS Cl of ‘12, Phillip, IHS Cl of ‘14, and Mark, IHS Cl of ‘16, Joseph, MH-MA Cl of ‘21 and Christina, MHMA Cl of ‘24.

Br. Jean-Marie was born in Boston, MA. The oldest of six children, he grew up in Omaha, NE, as well as living for a few years in Saginaw, MI. He graduated from St. Louis University High School in 2015. He will profess solemn vows as a monk of St. Benedict's Abbey in December of 2023.

About Yvette Korbelik

Yvette was born and raised in Burlington, CO, and graduated from Burlington High School in 1993. After high school she went on and attended the Community College of Cosmetology in Topeka, KS. After getting married she was then fortunate to be a stay-at-home wife and mom of five children for almost twenty years. In January of 2020 she began working at Maur Hill - Mount Academy as the school librarian. Yvette and her family are very happy to call Atchison home.

About Fr. Jay Kythe, OSB

Sacramental Minister

Fr. Jay is a monk of St. Benedict's Abbey. He is orginally from New Orleans, LA, with his parents and older brother from India. He has traveled extensively and has served as a priest in parishes before joining the monastery ten years ago. He enjoys working with people, and most of all, celebrating the sacraments so that people may be brought into a deeper communion with Christ.

Luke then went on to get his master's degree from Colorado State in Fort Collins, CO, earning a degree in zoo and aquarium management. Luke joined our staff as our biology teacher in 2021. About Lara Wallace

Lara Wallace was raised near the Wasatch Mountains near the Sundance Ski Resort in UT. She graduated from Orem High School in 1993. Lara attended Utah Valley University on a music and art scholarship, transferring to BYU and receiving her bachelor of arts in art education K–12 in 1999. Lara owned and operated Merus Creative Studios with her husband Jay Wallace who is the printmaking and graphic design professor at Benedictine College. She later taught art in the public schools for 10 years in UT, MO, and KS, and has won multiple art and teaching awards and loves photography, painting, and sculpting, and is excited to bring her experience in building strong art programs to Maur Hill - Mount Academy. Lara currently resides in Atchison with her husband and children.

Christian is from Atchison, KS. Christian graduated from Maur Hill - Mount Academy in 2016. After graduating from MH - MA, Christian went to Benedictine College and studied secondary education and social sciences. After graduation, Christian continued his education at Benedictine College and received a master's of school leadership in 2022. Christian has served as the coordinator of youth ministry for St. Benedict Parish and has coached several sports in and around Atchison. Christian is entering into his fourth year at MH - MA and serves as our campus minister and is the head boys basketball and is a golf coach.
